Born from a creative endeavor to celebrate our real therapy horse, Zippy, our series of new children's horse books is crafted with love for glorious kiddos navigating an increasingly anxious world.

Book #1 Hair We Go!

Hair We Go! Precious and Fur-Less

  

Doc Zippy, the uplifting & encouraging horse treats animal patients experiencing emotional challenges. In Book 1, Doc Zippy sees Harry, a hairless cat who has been feeling really down about not having fur. Zippy reminds Harry that his unique qualities bring comfort to his person, Cindy, who is losing her own hair due to medical treatments. In this touching story, young readers learn through the animals’ insecurities that they are valued, adored, and uniquely able to encourage and positively impact the lives of others. 

Book #2 Ears to Hear

  

Ears to Hear! Boom Boom gets to Hear and be a Champ! Doc Zippy, the uplifting and encouraging horse treats animal patients experiencing emotional or physical challenges. In Book 2, Doc Zippy sees Boom, Boom, an elephant who needs hearing aids. Zippy finds ways to help Boom Boom overcome his fears of being different in school. He also helps Boom Boom visualize a new world filled with confidence and enjoyable activities that he can embrace with his new ears. Author Kriss shares personal examples from her own lifelong profound hearing loss, creating relatable narratives about hearing loss and anxiety. Illustrator Angel, who is not only Kriss's daughter but also a human hearing aid with ironically supersonic hearing of her own, captures imagery and concepts drawn from real family and school situations, making this a perfect addition to any children’s book collection.

    About Us

    Writer/Mother/Animal Lover/Total Softie based in the Vail, CO area. A former corporate executive, small business owner, and IT consultant, Kriss really enjoys faith-based activities amid Colorado’s breathtaking scenery, outdoor sports, and wildlife. Although she has lifelong hearing loss, she Just Keeps Zippin’ by reading lips and using technology amid her likely future need for a cochlear implant.     Illustrator/Daughter/Dinosaur-Lover - Angel is the youthful illustrator with talent that eclipses the author's throughout the Just Keep Zippin' books. Her illustrations are only a small glimpse of the imaginative art she cranks out every day for the sheer joy of it. Gifted with natural talent, Angel enjoys creating graphics for the dinosaur museum where she volunteers, and provides whimsical illustrations for numerous sites, games and freelance efforts.

    The Just Keep Zippin’ series is filled with heartwarming humor and illustrations by mother-daughter duo Kriss and Angel King. Although a fire devastated their home in 2020, this series embodies their reliance on faith, positivity, love, and a desire to Just Keep Zippin’! The books are also a celebration of the REAL-LIFE Zippy horse. This beloved therapy horse inspired many with his velvety Zmooches, willing attitudes, and resilience. Check out his photos in the back of the books! And Just Keep Zipping! Exploring children's books can be a wonderful way to help kids understand their feelings.
